Changes in Employment Situtation

April 2014 saw some changes in the unemployment rate. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate fell from 6.7% to 6.3%.

The figure is 1.2 percentage points lower than April 2013, when the unemployment rate was 7.5 percent, and the lowest unemployment has been since September 2008.

  • Employment in construction grew by 32,000
  • Approximately 288,000 jobs were created
  • Long term unemployment has decreased by 908,000 in the last year

The May 2014 statistics will be released on June 6th, 2014.
